Vitacress MDW Multi-Level Recognition Event – 30th June 2009
Published in CDI London News by CDI London, July 6, 2009
We were very privileged to have The Mayor of Basingstoke, Councillor Brian Gurden and his Mayoress, Eleanor attend our 4th Mission Directed Work Teams (MDW) Recognition Lunch today. The Mayor has a special interest in supporting business in Basingstoke and Deane during his office. He dedicated the whole day to seeing what we do at Vitacress Salads, enjoying farm and factory tours, presenting the awards at our Recognition lunch and attending the Multi-Level Meeting.
The Mayor presented a total of eight awards for Highest Scoring Team for Goal Alignment, Most Improved Team for Goal Alignment, Highest Scoring Team for 5S, Most Improved Team for 5S, Best Cost-saving Innovation, Best Waste-reduction Innovation and Contribution to Asset Care.
The picture above is of one of our apprentices, Andy Thomas, receiving the award for his waste reduction innovation from the Mayor and Nick Stenning (CEO). Andy came up with the idea of extending the bottom side guards of the outfeed conveyor belt on Wash line 1 Centrifuge since he had noticed a large amount of washed leaf falling over the edge of the side guards onto the floor. On being given the go ahead, he fabricated the new side guards and fitted them unaided. This has significantly reduced the waste on the line and has an estimated an annual saving of approximately £9,000.
