Vitacress MDW Recognition Event
Published in Archive by CDI London, July 20, 2010
Vitacress held their 6th MDWT Recognition Event on 14th December and for the first time chose to combine this event with recognising Training achievements over the year, inviting guests from Andover College, Basingstoke College of Technology and Intec Business College. The event was held off site at our local village hall since it was a bigger event than usual catering for 40 people and also to make it more special in the build-up to Christmas. In total the event recognised 15 people for their achievements in MDWT and training. Awards included the Highest Scoring Team for Goal Alignment which went to our Technical team and an award to our apprentice, Kyle King, who has achieved a distinction for every piece of coursework he has submitted during his apprenticeship.
It was also only the second time we have presented the People's Award. It is different from all our other awards in that the winner is not decided based on audit scores or by the module champion in that area, but is voted for by everyone within the business. It was fantastic to see 10 people or teams from a number of departments nominated for their work on MDWT and receiving votes from so many people – well over 20 teams voted for this award. This award was presented to Pat John, New Product Development because she is constantly helping everybody and has a fantastic positive attitude whilst working really hard. The Marketing department said that Pat's contribution is essential and they don't believe they would have been able to win the business for so many new products without her professionalism.

The Best Factory Awards Conference 2007
Published in Archive by JJ, October 3, 2009
The BFA Conference was held in February 2007 and Vitacress Salads were well remembered for their achievement as BFA 2006 Factory of the Year. The whole conference, from the speaker's dinner on the Monday night to the last speakers - us! On the Wednesday afternoon, was an extremely professional and well organised event which attracted some 230 people from across British Manufacturing. Many of the award winners from the BFA 06 spoke on their specialised subjects and Alan McLenaghan of Saint Gobain Glass UK, the BFA 05 winners, returned again to inspire the audience with tales of how his business has exploited the award. It was a most humbling experience to stand up in front of the cream of the Best Factories to summarise the reasons we thought we had won. However, it also reminded us of a great achievement that had been slightly forgotten in the daily challenges of business in the elapsed months.
We were reminded how well MDW stands up when compared with other continuous improvement tools used by some of the other Best Factories and its uniqueness in offering people development, alongside more common process improvement tools.

CDI Holdings hosts a successful MDW conference in Malaysia.
Published in Archive by JJ, May 7, 2009
The Malaysia CDI MDW conference was held on 17 March 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. The conference offered an excellent opportunity for companies worldwide to share world class achievements.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Magdi Batato, Executive Director, Production, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, said that MDWT is a very powerful "Goal Alignment" tool as it provides clarity and simplicity at the shop floor by breaking the goals to single targets and tasks that the front line can impact and influence.

Coaches in Blue Caps
Mini Business Leaders in Green Caps
Every month the teams at BHP Billiton in Suriname (BMS), congregate at Central Mines for the Monthly Multi Level Meeting. The energy and enthusiasm is infectious as customers and suppliers take the last moments to prepare their presentations and renew friendships and partnerships.
All the BMS teams and key unsupervised contractors are present, the energy is evident as the CEO and other senior managers celebrate successes and ask how they might help those teams that have encountered difficulties. With this visible leadership the BMS Leadership team can be proud of their achievements to date. To quote a senior manager Kamla Madho "There is an overwhelming response to BAOS from all departments' service and operations, everyone is clambering to get involved"
In September 2008 the Coermotibo (CBO) operation was introduced to BAOS with huge pomp and ceremony. We look forward to CBO meeting and exceeding the expectations that have been birthed at Central Mines.

JohnsonDiversey Goal Alignment Activity
Published in Archive by JJ, August 29, 2008

JohnsonDiversey Customer Service Department, Utrecht, Holland.
Klaas Jan Oldenburger Project Manager of Customer Service Development introduced a clay activity to demonstrate the necessity of clear, well communicated goals. The activity was planned to reinforce the MDW Goal Alignment training that the team had just received.
During the first part of the activity, the team was asked to create a sculpture from clay. The team leader gave the team no other instruction or direction and each team member had a turn to make an individual contribution to the sculpture. The completed sculpture was an amusing but unrecognisable object.
The team was then given another lump of clay to create a new sculpture. This time however, the team leader began by outlining the vision and goals. The team was asked to assist the team leader in creating a champion trophy. With clear goals and outcome, the team was able to work together to produce a recognisable trophy.
The team enjoyed this practical activity that clearly demonstrated the value of working together towards clear, well conveyed goals.
5S Monthly Competition at N.V BHP Billiton in Suriname
Published in Archive by JJ, June 6, 2008

SEMC team Ð Edward Wijntuin, Kenneth van Ravenswaay, Humphrey Margaret with CDI London representative Derick Bezuidenhout.
The first 5S monthly competition was held at the BHP Billiton Mine in Suriname on the 16th of February 2008.
The competition idea was initiated by BHP who challenged the Mining Contracted suppliers to a competition after the teams had been on a site visit during the training of the 5S MDW module. 5S focuses on the increase of productivity by having an organised, neat and clean workplace and the essence of the competition is to support the 5th "S", i.e. to Sustain and to recognise improvements. The first competition was between the workshops of BHP, SEMC and Haukes with SEMC leading with 70%, Haukes 2nd with 65% and BHP 3rd with 47%. The teams are reviewed monthly to record application and progress of 5S. The competition will be a monthly event culminating in the award of the annual Monthly Challenge Trophy.
Future competitions will be extended to include all MDW teams. Congratulations go to the monthly winners as well as to all the participating teams for taking the first step on the way to continuous improvement at BHP Billiton.
